RED CEDAR, SALVAGED CEDAR SHINGLES, AND PINE SAP

Made from windthrow cedar felled naturally by windstorms and salvaged cedar shingles, this side table revives the ancient techniques of harnessing tree sap (pure pine resin) as a natural glue - one of the oldest known adhesives on earth - and harvesting trees that have been uprooted by heavy winds.

Mindful to use every part of the slab, dowels were carved by hand from offcuts and implemented discreetly at its various joints for enhanced stability.

The tree from which this slab came is believed to be over 300 years old based on growth rings. 

Instead of kiln drying, the wood was air-dried riverside on the shores of the Mamquam Blind Channel in Squamish, British Columbia.
